I am certified practicing speech pathologist with a special interest in complex communication needs. I have over 20 years' experience supporting and advocating with families and support teams to strive for the best possible outcomes for each person with a communication difficulty.
I graduated from La Trobe University in 2002 and have worked in a variety of settings including private practice, special schools, disability services, education and hospitals both in Melbourne and in the UK.
I have experience in working with people with a physical disability, developmental delay, neurological conditions and complex medical needs. I also support people with autism with a neuro-affirming approach. A large portion of my caseload are with children and adults with little or no speech.
I am highly experienced in the assessment and implementation of communication systems (both paper based and electronic) such as PODD books™, Proloquo2Go, TD Snap, Touch Chat and more.
Other than directly working with my clients and their families/support networks, I have experience in developing and presenting training modules to community organisations about communication difficulties and how we can support people to get their message across. I also provide face to face and online training to staff in kindergartens, schools and day services.
Over the years I have presented a number of papers at national and international disability related conferences on topics related to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). I am also able to support colleagues new to AAC through practice support and mentorship.
In my career I have enjoyed working collaboratively with other health professionals, education staff and support services and believe that a good team can achieve great outcomes.
I strive to always have a client and family centred approach to therapy as I partner with you and your team to achieve your goals for communication, speech and full participation in the community.
Outside the clinic, I love cooking, travelling and spending time with my husband and two active sons.
